Manila, PI/January 10, 2013 -- The end-of-year holidays came and went, and the province of Leyte, Philippines continues to grow stronger.
The DDC Group has transferred approximately 400 employees plus their families from Leyte to Manila for food, shelter, and the opportunity to work.
In Manila, we have hired approximately 200 new employees from a pre-established pool to work alongside the Leyte transplants to fulfill the production needs for the Leyte-based projects. Additionally, the two new spaces we have acquired in Manila (the 16th floor in Summit Building and the One San Miguel office) are both 100% up and running with approx. 500 workstations.
As of January 1, all projects that were affected reached 100% pre-typhoon capacity.
We are immensely appreciative of all of our clients, as they have shown nothing but incredible class and grace during this time.
The DDC Group’s team in Manila deserves special recognition, as they have done an absolutely spectacular job ensuring minimal-to-no impact on the clients.
Shortly after the typhoon struck Leyte on Nov. 8, the Secretary of Energy for the Philippines (and DDC co-founder), Jericho “I-COT” Petilla, promised to have power back in Leyte by Christmas Eve. Sure enough, on Dec. 23, power lines were back in Leyte and Samar provinces. Priority was given momentarily to public facilities like hospitals, churches, and government offices, and it is understood that some electric connections to houses will take time because of the severity of damage and the quantity of demand.
With this kept promise, we have already been able to send a total of 45 DDC employees back to Leyte to work while they rebuild and restore with their loved ones.
Reconstruction of our Leyte office in LAC is continuing to progress with 95% of the roofing already restored, and 72 workstations will be operational by January 15, 2014.
We continue to fundraise for our employees and their families through our 501(c)3 benefit fund, and Jan Trevalyan, The DDC Group CEO and Co-Founder, recently returned from a three-week visit to Leyte, where he helped Petilla hand out medical supplies, search for the missing and rebuild houses.
